Prescription Information

Prescription Information policy

If your pet requires a repeat prescription, please give us at least 24 hours notice as we do not keep every drug in stock and it gives us a chance to ask permission from the veterinary surgeon in charge of your case. We have to follow the guidelines set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and as such your vet may prescribe POM-Vs only for animals under their care.

To count as being under our care, we should have seen your pet within the last 6 months. This is to ensure that the medication is still correct for your pet, to weigh them and make sure that they are on the correct dose and to check that their condition hasn’t changed in any way. Some medical conditions such as hypo- and hyperthyroidism require regular blood tests to monitor the pet’s condition. In some conditions such as heart disease, we may need to see your pet more frequently. An appointment is required for a repeat prescription check.

If you’d like to know the price of any medicine that may be dispensed for your animal, please do just ask

You may obtain Prescription Only Medicines Veterinary, (POM-Vs) from your veterinary surgeon OR ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.
